Darren Roberts

Darren Auslan.png

Darren was born hearing but at the age of 4 became hard of hearing from meningitis.  From then to aged 30 he wore hearing aids, and aged 32 he developed tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and it was so bad he could no longer wear his hearing aids.  Literally overnight, he could no longer hear.

Darren’s background from a young age was with racehorses, working in stables and on stud farms, including experience working around Europe.

In his late 20’s Darren graduated from Box Hill TAFE with a disability degree and started working in the disability sector. He completed a teaching degree in Auslan LOTE in 2002. In 2004, he established The Auslan Company, which is privately owned and receives no government funding.

When he is not changing the world one sign at a time Darren can be found playing games with his 3yo, reading, gardening, horse riding, cooking, playing card and board games and welcoming friends to his home and sharing great food over inspiring conversations.
